Synaptic gating

Synaptic gating is the ability of neural circuits to "gate" inputs by suppressing inappropriate synapses. With other words, it is a mechanism for excluding synaptic input.

Some recent studies claim that synaptic gating also can be a mechanism for opening gates that are closed, allowing signals to enter. [Paul S. Katz: Synaptic Gating: The Potential to Open Closed Doors, "Department of Biology, Georgia State University, USA"]
