Hilary John Deacon, born 1936 in
Cape Town , is the retiredProfessor ofArchaeology at theUniversity of Stellenbosch inStellenbosch ,South Africa . He was aVisiting Professor atUniversity of California, Berkeley (1986); a Visiting Fellow atAustralian National University ,Canberra (1984); and a Visiting Professor at theUniversity of Chicago (1978).Hilary Deacon teaches archaeology at the University of Stellenbosch and has authored over a hundred publications in journals, books, monographs and conference proceedings. He is married to
