Howard Ben Tré (born
May 13 ,1949 ) is an American artist and sculptor known for his large-scale cast glass sculptures. He has become increasingly known lately for hispublic space artwork.Ben Tré was born in
Brooklyn , NY, in 1949; he now lives inProvidence, Rhode Island . He trained atPortland State University ,Oregon , andRhode Island School of Design in Providence.Howard Ben Tré's work is in museum and public collections worldwide. These include the
Metropolitan Museum of Art ; theHirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden ,Smithsonian Institution ,Washington, D.C. ; theMuseum of Fine Arts, Boston ; thePhiladelphia Museum of Art ; theLos Angeles County Museum of Art ; TheCorning Museum of Glass in New York; and TheNational Museum of Modern Art inKyoto, Japan , among others.In 1990, the
Phillips Collection in Washington, D.C. presented a ten-year retrospective of his work that traveled nationally. In 1994, his sculptures, drawings, and works on paper were exhibited by theMusee d'Art Moderne et d'Art Contemporain in Nice.Sculptures and works on paper created between 1991 and 1995 were the subject of the recent traveling exhibition organized by the
Cleveland Center for Contemporary Art and theUniversity of Richmond .Public artwork in
