The first HMAS "Anzac" (G00) was an "Anzac" class
destroyer , laid down byWilliam Denny and Brothers atDumbarton inScotland on 31 January 1916, launched on 11 January 1917 and commissioned into theRoyal Navy in April 1917 as HMS "Anzac".Royal Navy Service
HMAS "Anzac" led the 14th Flotilla of the Grand Fleet and served in the
North Sea and theEnglish Channel .Royal Australian Navy Service
"Anzac" was presented to the Australian Government in March 1919 and commissioned into the RAN, with the same
pennant number , on 27 January 1920. HMAS "Anzac" paid off for disposal on 30 July 1931 and was sold to Messrs. Abraham and Wilson of Redfern inNew South Wales on 8 August 1935. Her hull was scuttled offSydney on 7 May 1936 and used for target practice.References
