Glenelg Tigers (NBL)

The Glenelg Tigers were a foundation club in the NBL that formed in 1979. The club was based in South Australia in the Adelaide suburb of Glenelg. The Tigers lasted only one season before folding due to financial difficulties. History

When the NBL was formed in 1979, the South Australian Basketball League entered their top two ranked clubs from the 1978 season as their representatives. The Tigers managed only 3 wins from 18 games during the inaugural NBL season and finished last on the ladder. [cite web| title = Glenelg Tigers (1979) | publisher = NBL Stats | date = 2006| url = http://www.nblstats.com/roster.php?teamid=10003 | accessdate = 2007-03-03] As a result of the poor result and the financial strain of competing in a national league, the Tigers withdrew from the NBL prior to the start of the 1980 season. They were replaced by fellow South Australian representatives the West Torrens Eagles.

After leaving the NBL, the club maintained a presence in the South Australian Basketball League. They currently still compete in the Central Australian Basketball League component of the Australian Basketball Association as the Southern Tigers.
