Brian Feinstein is an American composer.

Composing credits

+ Brian Feinstein is an award-winning composer based in New York City. He is the recent recipient of the 2007 Anna Sosenko Trust Award for musical theatre composing which followed his 2006 Off-Broadway show “Mimi Le Duck” starring the legendary Eartha Kitt and Broadway veteran Annie Golden at New World Stages. (book & lyrics by Diana Hansen-Young).

+ In March 2008, Feinstein’s family musical “The Top Job”, based on the popular children’s novel, will be produced by the Vital Theatre Company in NYC. (book & lyrics: Robin Moyer Chung.) In addition with Robin Moyer Chung, Brian is currently developing the original musical, "Big Fat Cat" with Bruce Vilanch and was recently selected by the MONDO Publishing Company to launch their theatrical educational series with the one-act musical, “Daphne & Apollo”.

+ Produced by the Hangar Theatre in Ithaca, New York, Brian composed the musical adaptation of Bertol Brecht’s “Caucasian Chalk Circle,” and scored the music for the theatre’s touring version of “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe” (book & lyrics: by Amanda Yesnowitz.). The Boston Pops Orchestra conducted by Keith Lockhart, recently performed “No Looking Back" on New Year’s Eve with singing sensation, Katilyn Lusk, 14, who also released the title track on her own solo album. In addition with Amanda Yesnowitz, their original musical "By The Numbers" was selected for 2 staged readings: the ASCAP Musical Theatre Workshop conducted by Stephen Schwartz and the TRU Producing Series.

+ While working in Los Angeles, Brian composed “The Circus is Coming to Town”, produced by Theatre West which enjoyed being awarded “Best Children’s Musical” in Southern California.

+ Brian is currently working with award-winning playwright Anton Dudley on the original musical, “Tina GirlStar” to be work shopped at the LARK Theatre in June (book by Anton Dudley, lyrics: Charlie Sohne)

+ Brian is the recipient of 3 ASCAP Plus Awards and a Jonathan Larson Memorial Fellowship. He is a member of the New Dramatists Composer/Librettist Studio, and is on the advisory board of the New York Theatre Barn. From 1999-2004 he was the Creative Director of Atlantic Theatre: the cast-recording theatrical division of Atlantic Records. He earned his MFA from the NYU Tisch School of Musical Theatre Writing after a BA from the USC School of Cinema and is a very proud member of The Dramatists Guild, ASCAP, and the Tri-State Basset Hound Rescue League.

Awards

Brian has received 3 ASCAP Plus Awards for songwriting in the popular music division and is a recipient of a Jonathan Larson Memorial Fellowship award. He earned an MFA from the NYU Tisch School of the Arts for Musical Theatre Writing and a BA from the University of Southern California’s School of Cinema. Brian is a proud member of The Dramatists Guild, ASCAP, The New York Theatre Barn, The New Dramatist's Composer-Librettist Studio and the Tri-State Basset Hound Rescue League. He lives in New York City.
