Franck Silvestre (born April 5, 1967 in Paris) is a former French footballer, in the central defender position. He is the cousin of Arsenal and Manchester United player Mikaël Silvestre.

Football career

Silvestre began his career at FC Sochaux-Montbéliard in 1985. In 1987, the side was relegated into the French second division, immediately gaining promotion and reaching the French Cup final the next year, lost against FC Metz. Silvestre topped a great 1988 winning the UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship with France U21s.

In 1989 Silvestre, who did not play for a big team, received his first France callup from national team boss Michel Platini, making his international debut against the Republic of Ireland; he was also selected for Euro 1992 but remained on the bench.

In 1993, Silvestre signed for Guy Roux's AJ Auxerre where he made up for William Prunier's departure. During his years in the team, where he played alongside Dutch Frank Verlaat, Laurent Blanc and Frédéric Danjou as a central defender, Silvestre won two domestic cups and one league, including the 1995-96 double, also appearing in the UEFA Champions League.

He signed in 1998 with Montpellier HSC, where he eventually became captain. He left in January 2003 for SC Bastia, helping the side escape relegation. At the end of the season he signed for SK Sturm Graz in Austria.

He came back in France in January 2006 with FC Sète in the second division, but did not manage to help the club maintain its league status.
