Sick bay

Sick bay

Sick bay is a nautical term for the compartment in a ship used for medical purposes. The term is also applied ashore by the United States Navy and Marine Corps to treatment clinics on naval stations and Marine bases.

On Royal Navy ships, the sick bay is situated just below the bridge, forward on the starboard side. Lord Horatio Nelson decided that it should be there, and the Royal Navy obeyed his orders up to at least 1945.
