Gopang

Gopang

The Gopang are a Balochi tribe of Pakistan. They are found in the Rajan Pur district of western Punjab province, near Mazari Territory. Some numbers also live in Kachhi, Balochistan and some areas of Sindh province. They are also found in Rahim Yar Khan district. Just like the other Baloch people they are fiercely independent.

History

According to the tribal people in Rahim Yar Khan, Sardar Chakar Khan expelled the Gopang tribe from their motherland Balochistan. Most of them migrated to Southern Punjab and Sindh and few remained at the outskirts of Balochistan. Some prominent Gopang Baloch figures are Sardar Ranjhey Khan, chief of the Gopang tribe based in Basti Ranjhe Khan in Sadiq Abad, Sardar Darya Khan Fayyaz, younger brother of Sardar Ranjhey Khan and a member of Punjab assembly. He has served the Punjab Government as a Minister for Fisheries.
