Slovakia have yet to qualify for aRugby World Cup .Rugby was introduced in Slovakia in 2004. The Slovaks had not won a match in the History of Slovakian Rugby until 2007, when American Rugby Coach, Rafi Alami, moved to Bratislava Slovakia for a short term position with the United Nations. After being introduced to the Slovakian Rugby Team, Alami played two games with the Slovan Rugby Club, based out of Bratislava. The Slovan Club is comprised mostly out of National team players and represents the Slovakian Capitol city of Bratislava. The Slovakian team then asked Coach Alami to help train the Club for their Second Match against Greece. The Slovaks did surprisingly well just losing by 3 points in the last seconds of the match. Immediately following their return to the Slovan team, the Slovakian players, whom had never won a match, were trained intensely by the visiting American coach. In the next two matches against English touring sides, the Slovaks finally marked their first and second wins in the history of Slovakian Rugby. Sadly, Coach Alami had to leave Slovakia to return home after their second victory against the visiting English club from Kent. His position with the United Nations had ended and he was to start a career as a litigator back in his home country. He returned home to California where he is now head coach of the Berkeley Rugby Football Club in Berkeley, California.
