ROCS "Kee Lung" (基隆, DDG-1801) is the leading vessel of "Kee Lung" class
guided-missile destroyer currently in active service ofRepublic of China Navy.History
"Kee Lung" was formerly USS "Scott" (DDG-995), which, prior to its decommissioning by the
United States Navy in1998 , was the third "Kidd"-class destroyer. For a period of time "Kee Lung" was tentatively named "Chi Teh" (紀德), thetransliteration of "Kidd" into Chinese. But it was later decided to name her after the port ofKeelung , a major naval port in northern Taiwan."Kee Lung", along with her three sister ships, is the largest destroyer and second largest ship in displacement ever in Republic of China Navy service, only smaller than ROCS "Hsu Hai" (旭海, LSD-193)
dock landing ship . She was re-fitted for service in the ROCN at Denton's Shipyard inNorth Charleston, South Carolina . She was formally commissioned onDecember 17 ,2005 along with her sister ship ROCS "Su Ao" (蘇澳, DDG-1802), ex-"Callaghan" (DDG-994).pecifications
"Kee Lung" is also the only one of the four sister ships to be equipped with LAMPS III system, enables it to carry up to two S-70C(N) Sea Hawks helicopters for anti-submarine warfare.
