The first private school inthe island of Mactan founded by the Redemptorist Fathers in 1916. Since 1921 up to the present, SACS has been under the administration of the Missionary Benedictine Sisters even when the Parishwas turned over by the Redemptorists to the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart (MSC) in 1921. In 1991, SACS celebrated a momentous milestone, her DIAMOND JUBILEE. This is a living manifestation that for 75 years the institution has persistently and unwaveringly committee herself to the program of empowering the young citizens of the community. SACS celebrated its 90th foundation day last August 2005.

Historical background

Saint Alphonsus Catholic School was founded in 1916 by the Redemptorist Fathers, who named it in honor of their founder, Saint Alphonsus de Liguori. In 1916, the primary course was opened and in 1918, the intermediate grades were added thus completing the Elementary Department.

In 1921, the Missionary Benedictine Sisters were called to administer the school, a task they have been undertaking to the present day. In 1929, the Redemptorist Fathers turned over the Parish to the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart(MSC). But the Benedictine Sisters stayed on their work for the school.

SACS which began with an initial school population of 250, has reached an enrollment of 4,000 (S.Y. 1998-1999) for both Elementary and Secondary Departments. In 1985, the school went through its preliminary survey accreditation by the PAASCU. May 1990, the High School Department was granted an initial accreditation by the PAASCU.

In 2005, SACS Celebrated its 90th year. This is a living manifestation that for 90 years the institution has persistent and unwaveringly committed herself to the program of empowering the young citizens of the community. In April 2002 the Grade School was awarded certificate of accredited status making both departments accredited.

Vision and Mission

As a Catholic School our response to this situation is a vision of Christian Learning Community where the students'
*hearts are nurtured
*minds are challenged
*bodies are disciplined

We hope to attain this vision by:
*offering our teachers, staff and administration an integral on-going formation program for their growth in compassion and competence, compassion and pride in their work
*providing adequate and well-maintained facilities to enhance the whole teaching-learning experiences;
*teaching of and witnessing moral and spiritual values that will lead us, our students in particular, to become socially aware and actively responsive to the needs of the society, especially the cry of the poor and the challenged of Mother Earth.

Saint Alphonsus Catholic School is basically part of the Benedictine schools run by the Congregation of Order of Saint Benedict. It's known sister schools are St. Scholastica's Academy in Manila, St. Peter's College in Ormoc, etc..

The students are guided on their handbooks.They are the only school in Lapu-Lapu City that is Accredited.Mostly they produce well-trained students.
