Åre (pronounced "ore-eh") is a skiing resort (pop. 1,300) in Åre Municipality, Jämtland County, Sweden. It is not the seat of the municipality, which is Järpen.

Close to Mt. Åreskutan, it is a major centre for alpine skiing in Sweden (Åre (ski area)). 25% of the municipal industry is based on tourism, most notably the skiing resorts in "Åre" and "Storlien". It hosted the Alpine World Championships in 1954 and 2007, and the annual Jon Olsson Invitational freeskiing competition, ending in 2007. In 1999 Åre was also the host for the UCI Mountainbike World Championships and is still the largest Mountainbike resort in Sweden.

Åre would also have been the secondary site for the alpine events of Östersund in its bid for the organization of the XXII Olympic Winter Games, the 2014 Winter Olympics.

It is the birthplace of New York Rangers goaltender Henrik Lundqvist and twin Dallas Stars checking forward Joel Lundqvist.

There are numerous biking trails down the mountain. The Åre Bikepark is open from 1 May until 15 October and is the host for Nordic Championships 2007 and The Mayhem Festival
