Interstate 85 is a major interstate highway that links many areas of the southeastern United States from Montgomery, Alabama to Petersburg, Virginia.
Completed in 1972, I-85 runs for 69 miles [ [http://www.virginiadot.org/info/interstate50th/i85.asp Interstate 85] "50 Years of the Interstate." Virginia Department of Transportation. Accessed 26 May, 2005.] across Virginia from southwest to northeast from the North Carolina state line near Palmer Springs through South Hill to its northern terminus at Interstate 95 in Petersburg, which is about 25 miles south of Richmond. Interstate 85 also has the only 70 miles per hour speed limit in Virginia, from the North Carolina line to about 50 miles north.Fact|date=October 2007
