Sir Edward Knatchbull, 8th Baronet

Sir Edward Knatchbull, 8th Baronet (22 May 1758 – 1 September 1819) was a British politician.

The son of Sir Edward Knatchbull, 7th Baronet and Grace Legge, he was educated at Christ Church, Oxford, where he matriculated in 1777. In 1810, he received a Doctor of Civil Laws by the University of Oxford. Having been Sheriff of Kent in 1785, he succeeded to his father's baronetcy in 1789. He was Member of Parliament (MP) for Kent from 1790 to 1802 and from 1806 to 1819.

In July 1780, he married firstly, Mary Hugessen, daughter of William Western Hugessen. He had one son by his first wife, Edward Knatchbull (1781 - 1849).

On 4 June 1785, Knatchbull married secondly Frances Graham, daughter of John Graham and on 13 April 1801. They had eight children:
*Rev. Wyndham Knatchbull (23 Aug 1786 - Kent, England - 5 Apr 1868 - East Ashford, Kent, England) He married Anna Maria Elizabeth Dawkins on 16 Dec 1826
* Frances Anne Knatchbull (abt 1787 - 14 Mar 1843) She married Rev. Charles Hughes-Hallett (1788-1846) on 15 May 1806 at Mersham, Kent, England
* Charles Knatchbull (abt 1789 - 13 Aug 1835)
* John Knatchbull (abt 1791 - Mersham, Kent, England - 1844) Never Married. Probably the naval captain and convict found guilty of murder in 1844; who was one of the earliest to raise in a British court the plea of moral insanity (unsuccessfully).
* Elizabeth Knatchbull (abt 1793 - Mersham, Kent, England - ? )
* Harriet Knatchbull (abt 1796 - Norton, Kent, England - 5 Aug 1864 She married George William Hughes-D'Aeth on 20 Jul 1816
* Mary Knatchbull (abt 1797 at Mersham, Kent, England - 23 Feb 1846) She married Rev. Watson William Dickins (1789-1862) on 20 Jun 1818
* Capt. Thomas Knatchbull (abt 1799 - 1855). He married Jane Connell on 30 Apr 1825

His third marriage was to Mary Hawkins, daughter of Thomas Hawkins in St George's Church in London. They had two children:
* Eleanor Knatchbull d. 30 Oct 1883
* Lt.-Gen. Reginald Edward Knatchbull (11 May 1812 - 15 Apr 1885)
