- Flynt Quarry
Flynt Quarry was a
granite quarry that opened in 1809 inMonson, Massachusetts by Rufus Flynt to originally supply granite for the construction of theSpringfield Armory . It was later used to supply granite to virtually all buildings in Monson that are made of granite, including the Memorial Town Hall, the library, the Universalist church, and all of the monuments in town. The quarry went into decline with the introduction ofconcrete as a more popular form of construction, and the quarry was finally closed by around 1935.
