Rutland Radio is a Independent Local Radio station broadcasting since December 1998 from Melton Road in Oakham to Rutland on 107.2FM (Manton) and Stamford on 97.4FM (East Casterton).

The station is owned by the Lincs FM Group in Lincoln. Nottingham University graduate [http://www.geocities.com/thehotw/GrahamWrighttracker.htm Graham Wright] is the features editor; he is also the afternoon presenter. [http://www.rutlandradio.co.uk/sean.php?id=913 Rob Persani] has the morning programme from 6am - 12pm. [http://www.rutlandradio.co.uk/sean.php?id=922 Ellie Leech] presents between 12 and 2pm, Graham Wright hosts 2pm to 8pm and [http://www.rutlandradio.co.uk/sean.php?id=917 James Martin] has 8pm - 12am. Lincolnshire's [http://www.rutlandradio.co.uk/sean.php?id=923 Sally Elkington] has the half-hour farming programme from 7am on Sunday. Rutland's weather forecasts are provided by MOD meteorologists at RAF Cottesmore.

One third of Rutland's population tunes in each day.

It received the licence from the Radio Authority to broadcast to Rutland on June 4 1998 (the day licences were awarded to the two nearby stations that have now become Oak FM). The group of licences had been advertised en-masse, and two stations were proposed for the area. It turned out to be initially three. Although [http://www.ofcom.org.uk/static/archive/rau/newsroom/news-release/98/pr08.htm eight stations] had applied for the licence by February 3 1998, only Rutland Radio had submitted proposals for Rutland - the other seven were for Leicestershire. Rutland had only come back into existence a year before the station commenced.

On July 19 2005, a sales executive for the station, [http://www.flickr.com/photos/martinoakham/2542063490/ Elaine Dakers] , was car-jacked at traffic lights in Oakham by 35 year drug addict Darren Hutchinson, and driven at knifepoint for fifty minutes before being robbed.
