Garrett W. Johnson (born May 24, 1984 in Tampa, Florida)To Nate and Carmen Johnson is an elite American shot putter. Johnson won the 2006 NCAA Indoor and Outdoor Shot Put Championship. Johnson also was named a Rhodes Scholar in 2006 on behalf of the United States. Academic

Garrett Johnson was the Salutatorian in the 2002 graduating class at Tampa Baptist Academy in Tampa, Florida; where he won multiple state championships.

Johnson graduated magna cum laude in three years with a double major in Political Science and English. Johnson was member of the Phi Theta Kappa Collegiate Honor Society and the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. Johnson, a three-time ACC Academic Honor Roll member earned the Florida State Golden Torch Award given to the FSU student-athlete with the highest GPA. Johnson was also named to the FSU Dean’s list three times with a 3.5 GPA or better and the FSU President’s list with a 4.0 GPA.

Exeter College, Oxford University, England

Johnson is currently pursuing a Master's degree in Migration Studies as a 2006 Rhodes Scholar at Exeter College, Oxford University. Johnson's masters research examines global economic inequities and the impact poverty has on global migratory patterns closely observing Haiti's current socio-economic state, continuing the research he began as an intern in the Legislative Office of Florida Governor Jeb Bush.

Johnson is one of the United State's best young thowers. Johnson is unique in that he represents himself, but is known to consult with sports attorney Don West, Jr. Johnson is coached by Harlis Meaders.
