The Treaty of Seville was signed on
November 9 1729 between Great Britain,France , andSpain , concluding theAnglo-Spanish War (1727) .William Stanhope and Sir Robert Walpole participated in the negotiations. Stanhope was rewarded for his services and became Baron Harrington in January of
1730 . Moreover, Walpole rewarded Stanhope by making him theSecretary of State for the Northern Department .Based on the terms of the treaty, Britain maintained control of
Port Mahon andGibraltar . In return, Britain supported the claim ofIsabella Farnese , Queen of Spain to theDuchy of Parma , after the death ofAntonio Farnese, Duke of Parma .ee also
