Episode recap

Garfield is trying to watch television when he gets interference due to Jon running the vacuum cleaner. Garfield then suggests that Jon uses a broom to do house cleaning; instead, Jon suggests that Garfield stop watching TV. He then makes a bet that if Garfield can go twenty-four hours without watching television, "he" will stop using the vacuum cleaner.
Jon tries to thwart Garfield by telling him about interesting programs coming on, but Garfield manages to resist and later goes to bed. In the middle of the night, the television set wakes him up and asks them why he has abandoned him. The TV set then tempts him with interesting programming like Jon did, and at one point Garfield is about to turn on the TV, but then he unplugs him instead; then he goes back to sleep.
The next morning, Jon tries to turn on the television to watch the weather forecast, but it doesn’t turn on. Jon concludes that the TV is broken, so he tells Garfield that he won the bet; then he throws the vacuum cleaner into the closet. He then tells Garfield that he can watch TV as much as he wants once the set is fixed, but Garfield doesn’t want to because of the previous night. Jon then begins to relax until the vacuum cleaner comes out and asks him why he abandoned her.

Notes

*The television reminds Garfield that he loves watching "Name That Fish," which is a reference to The Binky Show.
*Jon never checked to see if the TV was unplugged before taking it to a repair shop.
