Frederick MacDonald "Fred" Quayle (born February 16, 1936 in Suffolk, Virginia) is an American politician and Republican State Senator who represents the 13th District in the Commonwealth of Virginia. His district includes parts of Chesapeake City; Franklin City; Hopewell City; Isle of Wight County; Portsmouth City; Prince George County; Southampton County; Suffolk City; and all of Surry County. Quayle has been reelected four consecutive times since he was first elected in 1991. Senator Quayle currently sits on the following committees: Courts of Justice, Education and Health, Finance, Rules, and Local Government, for which he is the Chair. On November 6, 2007, Quayle handily defeated his well funded Democratic opponent, Steve Heretick, by a margin of over 18%. Many contribute Quayle's victory to his highly dedicated and energetic campaign team. The team was lead by Campaign Manager Jim Bailey. UVA's Larry Sabato said Bailey, a UVA grad, knew more about the Virginia political process than anyone in his age range. Joining Bailey was Iraq War veteran John T. Bennett a graduate of the University of Chicago, and Greg Macur, a graduate of James Madison University.

Personal

Quayle grew up in Suffolk, VA and graduated from Suffolk High School in 1954. He earned a B.A. in economics at the University of Virginia in 1959, where he was an accomplished lacrosse player and a member of the now defunct Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity. Quayle studied law at T.C. Williams School of Law at the University of Richmond and earned his LL.B. in 1966. He currently resides in Suffolk, VA.

He also teaches Political Science at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.
