Jonathan Yeo (born 1970) is a British artist, known for his distinctive portraits that combine "photographic realism with a painterly touch".
Biography
Yeo was educated at the independent Westminster School in London. He did not go to art college but taught himself to paint in his early twenties. He was the official artist of the 2001 British General Election, creating the likenesses of all three of the main party leaders in a triptych titled "Proportional Representation" (currently on display in Portcullis House).
In 2007 it was widely reported that the Bush Library in Texas had asked Yeo to paint a portrait of President George W. Bush but they later backed out of the commission. Yeo's response was to make a collaged portrait out of explicit pornographic magazines.
In 2006 The National Portrait Gallery in London acquired Yeo's portrait of Rupert Murdoch for its permanent collection.
In May 2008 Jonathan featured in the ITV documentary The Duke: A Portrait of Prince Philip, in which he spoke about painting The Prince for a portrait commisoned by the Muscular Dystrophy Campaign. [From [http://www.muscular-dystrophy.org/news/prince_philip.html] ]
Jonathan Yeo is the son of the Conservative MP Tim Yeo and is married to former actress and journalist Shebah Ronay. They have two daughters.
