John Addey (
1550 -16 April 1606 ) was mastershipwright at HM DockyardDeptford in south-eastLondon .Addey was buried in [http://www.deptfordchurch.org St Nicholas Church] in Deptford and there are plaques to him on the exterior north wall.
He left £200 to the poor of Deptford which was invested in land on Church Street and provided an income to maintain schools (his will also mentioned Londons' Shipwrights Hall). The Addey School was built here in 1821 and enlarged in 1862. It amalgamated with Dean Stanhope's School to form
Addey and Stanhope School , and moved toNew Cross Road in 1899.
