Abdul Malek Ukil

Abdul Malek Ukil ( _bn. আব্দুল মালেক উকিল) (October 1, 1925-October 17-1987) was a Bangladeshi lawyer and politician. He was one of the founding member of East Bengal Muslim Students League and was associated with one of the leading political party, Awami League.

Early life

Abdul Malek Ukil was born at Rajapur village of Noakhali district. He received his MA degree from Dhaka University and completed LL. B the following year from the same institution. He started his professional carrier at Noakhali District Bar. As a student he became one of the founding member of the East Bengal Muslim Student League.

Political Carrier

Following his reputations in politics during his student life, Ukil became a member of the East Pakistan Provincial Assembly in 1956. Later he continued his membership at the parliament winning in 1962 and 65. He was the leader of the Awami League Parliamentary party and also the qualition opposite paries in 1965. He was also elected as the president of the Noakhali district Awami League and a member of central executive committee of the party from 1962 to 64. He served as the vice president of Commonwealth Parliamentary Association and joined in the conference of opposing parties in 1966 in Lahore. Malek Ukil was arrested during the 6 Point Movement. In 1970 election he was elected a member of the Pakistan National Assembly. He was also a member of the Relief and Rehabitation Committee of Mujibnagar Government during the Bangladesh Liberation War. After the independence Abdul Malek Ukil joined the committee for creating the Constitution of Bangladesh. He was a member of the cabinet division in 1972 and was elected as a member of the Jatiyo Sangsad in 1973. He died in Dhaka.
