The R747 is a
regional road running north-west/south-east from the N9 atBallitore inCounty Kildare toArklow inCounty Wicklow , a distance of km to mi | 64 | abbr=yes | precision=0 .From its junction with the N9 it enters County Wicklow almost immediately and km to mi | 10 | abbr=yes | precision=0 southeast it crosses the N81 in the town of
Baltinglass . It continues southeast throughKiltegan before crossing intoCounty Carlow for a short distance where it passes throughHacketstown . Back in County Wicklow it crosses theWicklow Way and enters the southern end of theWicklow Mountains nearTinahely .From Tinahely it heads northwest for km to mi | 14 | abbr=yes | precision=0 to Aughrim, and then east along the valley of Aughrim River to
Woodenbridge where it is joined by the R752. The final leg of its eastward route is through the valley of theRiver Avoca which takes it throughAvoca and under (though not connecting to) the N11 before terminating in the centre ofArklow .Like the other main regional roads in the
Wicklow Mountains , the R115, R759, R756, R752 and R755 this road passes through some wonderful scenery.Further Developments
As part of the construction of the new N9 dual-carriageway from
