Kosmo
Kosmo came from North Dakota to progam Mix 97.7 back in the '90s, but was involved in a near-fatal traffic accident - he was broad-sided while driving in a station van to an event. He's since recovered and now handles middays (10am-3pm) on Mix 97.7.
Ron
Ron (aka Ron Roberts) serves as the program director and afternoon host at Mix. His station credits include WEZB/New Orleans, as well as programming at KQID/Alexandria, La., and hosting AM drive at WABB/Mobile and WZNY/Augusta, Ga. He hosts the 3pm-7pm shift.
Night Show
The night show's been a revolving door of late; Larry Knight and Mix 97.7 parted company in April, 2008, and Justin Tyme held down the position a few weeks before leaving to program a CHR in Reno, Nevada. In May, the station put on a contest to hire the new night show. Dubbed as "Hire Me Mix" the contest put five local radio rookies through various tests and live auditions, while letting listeners decide who'd remain each week. Leah Maravich, simply going by "Leah" on the air, won the contest and now holds the position.
History
WGMB was located in
Georgetown, South Carolina for many years prior to a power increase from 3000 to 50,000 watts. For a brief time in the mid-1980s, the station wasadult contemporary with the name WMXX "Magic 97.7", and the logo used on billboards resembled that ofWMAG inHigh Point, North Carolina . Later, the station was back to the WGMB letters and known as "98 Rock", with analbum oriented rock format. After the station improved its signal, it was known as WBPR "Power 98" and had a
rhythmic CHR format. Later the format moved in a more mainstream CHR direction. The change to the current name and call letters was made in the early 90s, and ahot adult contemporary format was used for several years. The signal was eventually improved to 100,000 watts and the city of license was moved to Garden City Beach.External links
