Alan Nakanishi is an
American politician fromLodi, California . A Republican, he has been a member of theCalifornia State Assembly since 2002, representing the 10th district. He is termed out of the Assembly in 2008 and is a candidate for the State Board of Equalization in 2010.Education
Nakanishi earned his B.A. in Chemistry at
Pacific Union College , and his M.D. fromLoma Linda University . He completed his medical internship at USC Medical Center. He also has a Masters Degree in Health Administration from Virginia Commonwealth University.Military
Nakanishi served two years as a Major in the U.S. Army, leading a surgical department at
McDonald Army Hospital .Medical career
Since 1971, Nakanishi has practiced medicine in Stockton. He is the co-founder of Delta Eye Medical Group, a six-physician group with offices in
Lodi , Stockton and Tracy.Political career
Nakanishi was elected to the Lodi City Council in 1998. He served until he was first elected to the State Assembly in 2002. In 2001, Nakanishi served as his city's Mayor.
Since 2005, Nakanishi has served as Co-Chair of the Asian-Pacific Islander Joint Legislative Caucus. He is the first Republican to have ever served in that capacity. He is also a member of the Rural Caucus, and the Legislative Sporting Caucus.
Personal
Nakanishi and his wife Sue live in Lodi. They have three children and ten grandchildren.
