- F-box protein
F-box proteins are
protein s containing at least one F-box motif, aprotein structural motif of about 50amino acid s that mediatesprotein-protein interaction s. The first identified F-box protein is one of three components of theSCF complex , which mediatesubiquitin ation of proteins targeted for degradation by theproteasome . The F-box motif interacts directly with the SCF protein Skp1cite journal|journal=Cell|title=SKP1 connects cell cycle regulators to the ubiquitin proteolysis machinery through a novel motif, the F-box.|author= Bai et al.|date=1996|volume=86|issue=2|page=263-74] , and F-box motifs commonly exist in proteins in concert with other protein-protein interaction motifs such asleucine-rich repeat s andWD repeat s, which are thought to mediate interactions with SCF substrates Kipreos ET, Pagano M.
