Tyne and Wear Metro is the nearest one to theUniversity of Sunderland 's St Peter's Campus. The station opened as part of theSunderland extension in2002 . It is located close to theWearmouth Bridge and just a short distance south of the old Monkwearmouth Station which closed in1968 and is now amuseum .
