Dimitra (Greek: Δήμητρα) is a small village located next to the plains of Elis, Greece. It is part of the municipal unit of Vartholomio. Distance from Kyllini is 9 km SE and about 5 km W of GR-9/E55. The village centre lies on a hilly setting located 100 m from the plain of Elis. The population is about 200. The village was known as Troube until somewhere in the 20th century when it changed its name. It is located near some mixed farming in the north while the west and south is covered with olive and citrus groves. Dimitra's nearest communes are Machos in the west, Neochori in the northwest, Regleika and Strousi in the north, Kardiakafti in the east and Vartholomio in the south. The village centre includes a plateia/square with a church. The main road to Kavassila for 200 m is covered with large trees with a height of around 5 m. The other small settlement include Reglaiika, commonly Regleika with a tiny population and a few houses. It is now connected by a gravel road to Strousi and Myrsini. The area to the northwest, between Dimitra and Neochori, is largely forested.

History

Dimitra (then as Troube) was ruled by the Ottoman Turks, it became a part of Greece after the Greek War of Independence. It became a part of the province of Ilia. Between the 1830s and 1913 it was part of the municipality of Myrtounito, until 1997, it was an independent community. It adopted its current name in the early 20th century. After World War II and the Greek Civil War, its buildings were rebuilt. Samiko became connected with asphalt in the 1960s. More pavement was accessed in the late 20th century. Electricity, radio and automobiles were introduced in the mid-20th century, television in the late-20th century and computer and internet at the turn of the millennium. Dimitra joined the municipality of Vartholomio.
