Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Gŵyr is a
Welsh language medium secondary school inGowerton ,Swansea , with approximately 800 pupils as of 2006. [http://www.swansea.gov.uk/media/pdf/4/d/School_List_2006-2007.pdf] It was established in 1984. Proposals were made to move the school to the site of
Penlan Comprehensive School , which was shortly to close. However parents protested against the move, and instead a second Welsh-language school (Ysgol Gyfun Gymraeg Bryn Tawe ) was opened inPenlan .According to latest inspection report from
Estyn the school has a GCSE pass rate of 72% (based on 5 GCSEs, grades A-C), which puts it in joint 19th place inWales or in the top 10%. InSwansea it is ranked in joint 2nd place withOlchfa Comprehensive School .In 2007, Ysgol Gyfun Gŵyr introduced the Welsh Baccalaureate.
