This World Fair was a rock act based out of Minneapolis, Minnesota.[1] The line-up included the singer-songwriter Chris Kalgren (vocals, piano, guitar), along with a touring band consisting of Alexander Young (drums) and Matt Lennander (guitar). This World Fair internationally released their first full-length album, self-titled This World Fair, on December 16, 2008. This World Fair performs hundreds of shows per year and have toured extensively across the United States.

History

This World Fair formerly went by the name 'Kalgren'.[2] This World Fair were discovered in 2004 by the girlfriend of their manager Grammy Award-winning record producer, Stephen Short. Past This World Fair and Kalgren members include George Hadfield (bass), DJ House (guitar) and Tyler Jorenby (drums). In 2007, This World Fair toured with acts such as Under the Influence of Giants, Guster, Phantom Planet, and Quietdrive. During early 2008, This World Fair transformed from being a band in to the stage-name of lead singer-songwriter Chris Kalgren, similar to the form of solo-acts such as Aqualung (Matt Hales) and A Fine Frenzy (Alison Sudol).[3] In January 2008, This World Fair headlined a tour across the Midwest. Throughout the month of February 2008, Chris Kalgren of This World Fair produced Ari Herstand's 2008 album Whispering Endearments at Pachyderm Studio near Minneapolis, MN. Most recently, This World Fair headlined the Chipotle Rhythm Kitchen stage at Summerfest in Milwaukee, WI and co-headlined a national tour with the Universal Motown band Barcelona in the summer of 2008.[4][5]

Home was released independently in 2003 when This World Fair went by the name Kalgren. Four tracks off the album were awarded Track of the Day by GarageBand. The band's most popular single from the album, was titled "Waiting For You". The Album contained the hit "San Francisco".

So Is Death & Love

This World Fair recorded the 5 song EP in 2005. It was produced by Stephen Short.[6] Music critics considered that So Is Death & Love was ready for airplay on mainstream radio.[7]

This World Fair

This World Fair's latest full length album, self-titled This World Fair was released on December 16, 2008.[8] The album was originally to be released in 2007, but it faced an eighteen month delay due to the closing of the Rethink imprint label of EMI.[9] The album is This World Fair's first release on an international scale. It was produced in the winter of 2007 by Al Clay (The Pixies, Pink, Uh Huh Her) at Sonic Ranch studios. During the writing process for the album, This World Fair worked with Ryan Tedder, the lead singer of OneRepublic, as well as Michael Guy Chislett who is the lead guitarist of The Academy Is. A three song sampler of this album was released on iTunes on April 16, 2007.

Other work

This World Fair recorded and cowrote the track "Don't Make Me Wait"[10] featured in the Dreamwork's film, Disturbia, released 13 April 2007.[11] A music video for this song made by Disturbia's director, DJ Caruso, was produced by Lakeshore Records. The music video is included as an extra feature on the home releases of the film.

Music by This World Fair was played in all NHL arenas for the 2008-2009 season, as it was included on the NHL Slapshot Sampler CD.

The series finale episode of the television show Radio Free Roscoe, titled 'The Last Dance', began with the TWF song "Waiting For You" in the background.

Music by This World Fair was featured in the second season of The Inferno on MTV.[12]

A song from This World Fair, titled "Plastic Soul", is featured on the soundtrack for the 2008 independent mystery film, The Other Side of the Tracks.[13]

Recent

In January 2008, This World Fair toured across the Midwest. Throughout the month of February 2008, Chris Kalgren of This World Fair produced Ari Herstand's 2008 album Whispering Endearments at Pachyderm Studio near Minneapolis, MN. Most recently, This World Fair headlined the Chipotle Rhythm Kitchen stage at Summerfest in Milwaukee, WI and embarked on a Midwest and West Coast tour through July 2008.
