Billy Henderson (American singer)

Billy Henderson (American singer)

Billy Henderson 9 August 1939, Detroit, Michigan — 2 February 2007, Holly Hill, Florida was an African-American singer. He was an original member and founder of The Spinners, a soul vocal group.

The Spinners were formed in 1954 by five friends in High School in Ferndale, Michigan. They had several hits, especially in the 1970s, such as "I'll Be Around" (1972) and "Could It Be I'm Falling in Love", "Then Came You" (with Dionne Warwick) and "The Rubberband Man". The Spinners were nominated for six Grammy Awards and they received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the second star for a musical group consisting of African-Americans.

As told by the late singer: In 2004, Henderson was forced to leave The Spinners after he began investigation of the corporation handling by Business Manager. (Note: L. Smith, wife of group member B. Smith was Business Manager at time of investigation).

In February 2007, Henderson died at the age of 67 of complications caused by diabetes. His interment was located at Woodlawn Cemetery.
