Gojal region of theNorthern Areas of Pakistan . It is the last town insidePakistan on theKarakoram Highway before the Chinese border. The town is an important place on the Karakoram Highway for all passenger andCargo transport because all traffic crossing the Pakistan-China border passes through this town and the Pakistaniimmigration andcustoms departments are based here.Karakoram Highway
The town of Sust is connected by the
Karakoram Highway to Karimabad,Gilgit andChilas on the South and to the Chinese cities of Tashkurgan,Upal andKashgar in the North. TheNorthern Areas Transport Corporation offers passenger road service betweenIslamabad , Gilgit andSost . Passenger road service between Tashkurgan and Sost also exists, and road service between Kashgar and Gilgit (via Tashkurgan and Sust) started in summer2006 . However, the border crossing betweenChina andPakistan atKhunjerab Pass (the highest border of the world) is open only between May 1 and October 15 of every year. During winter, the roads are blocked by snow.Railway
In February 2007, consultants were engaged to explore the possibility of a railway link via the
Khunjerab Pass . The nearest railway in Pakistan is atHavellian .
