Indiana House of Representatives , representing the 6th House District since 1970. His district consists primarily of the city of South Bend in St. Joseph County in northern Indiana. He is currently Speaker of the House.Bauer and his wife Karen have three children, Bart, Megan and Maureen. When not working as a legislator, he serves as the Dean of External Affairs for

Rep. Bauer was selected to serve as Indiana's Speaker of the House on Nov. 7, 2006. The
Speaker of the House presides over theIndiana House of Representatives and sets the legislative agenda. The Speaker also assigns the other Indiana House Democrats to their respective committees. His term will last until the end of the 2008 session of theIndiana General Assembly .Speaker Bauer previously served as Speaker of the House during the 2003 and 2004 sessions.
