Eero Tarasti (born
Helsinki ,September 27 ,1948 ) is a Finnish musicologist and semiotician, currently serving as Professor of Musicology at theUniversity of Helsinki .After receiving his Ph.D. degree at the University of Helsinki in 1978, Tarasti served a while at the
University of Jyväskylä , appointed as Professor of arts education in 1979-1983 and professor of musicology in 1983-1984. In 1984 he attained position as professor of Musicology in Helsinki. Tarasti has held several posts as Director or President in semiotic and musical societies and has written and edited numerous books with a semiotical approach on music since the 1970s. He is the President of theInternational Association for Semiotic Studies (since 2004).Books
