Adele Marcus

Adele Marcus (22 February 1906 - 3 May 1995) was an American pianist, but better known as a teacher of many other famous pianists. She was on faculty at the Juilliard School in New York City and provided master classes in piano performance at other conservatories including the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago during the 1970s in collaboration with William Browning, also a teacher of great repute.

She was the last of 13 children of a rabbi of Russian descent. She studied under Josef Lhevinne and Artur Schnabel.

Her famous pupils included: Agustin Anievas, Tzimon Barto, Enrique Batiz (later a conductor), Jeffrey Biegel, David Brunell, Anthony Byrne, Sergio Calligaris, Cy Coleman, Horacio Gutiérrez, Stephen Hough, Byron Janis, Norman Krieger, Beata Moon, Pascal Nemirovski, Jon Kimura Parker, Güher Pekinel and Süher Pekinel, Santiago Rodriguez, Thomas Schumacher, Neil Sedaka and Jeffrey Swann.
