by-election held on22nd September 1921 for theBritish House of Commons constituency of Louth inLincolnshire .The seat had become vacant on the
death on8 August of the LiberalMember of Parliament (MP) Thomas Wintringham. He had been elected at a by-election in 1920.The Liberal candidate was
Margaret Wintringham , widow of the late MP. She won the by-election with a small majority, becoming only the second woman to take her seat in the House of Commons, and the first female Liberal MP. She was re-elected at the 1922 general election, and held the seat until her defeat at the 1924 general election.Votes
