Camerata Chicago is a
Chicago based stringorchestra which had its debut in early 2003. Theorchestra performs a wide array of classical and romantic works as well as newly commissioned pieces. Camerata performs while standing, allowing for an intense musical freedom and visually compelling live performances.History
Camerata Chicago was founded by director Drostan Hall with the aid of his colleagues and wife Dorthy Hall, current concertmaster of the orchestra. The ensemble generally consists of fifteen strings players, expanding when necessary to perform works that demand large string sections or small symphonic orchestras which require wind and brass. The ensemble also incorporates three or four young musicians to perform alongside experienced professionals. Camerata brings together some of the finest musicians in
Chicago and stands as the city's only professionalstring orchestra .Performances
The current concert series includes works by
Shostakovich andDvorák with performances at the Harris Theater, College Church, andNorthern Illinois University ."One of the top five chamber orchestras in America"
