UFO sightings in Portugal

This is a list of alleged sightings of unidentified flying objects or UFOs in Portugal.

1957

* On September 4, 1957 at 19:21, four bombers aircraft took off the Ota Air Base, in Portugal. They were under Captain José Lemos Ferreira control. The others pilots were sergeants Alberto Gomes Covas, Salvador Alberto Oliveira e Manuel Neves Marcelino. The first part of the operation was successful, and so they turned towards the city of Portalegre. At this point, Captain Ferreira noticed a strange light above the horizon. After observing it for 3 or 4 minutes, he warned the others about what he had just seen. The pilot on his right had already seen it. The object looked like a very shining star, but much bigger than normal. It’s center changed colors constantly, going from green to blue, and also some yellow and red tones.

1976

* In 1976, after have been seen in Iran, a UFO took off to the west and was spotted 25 minutes later over the Mediterranean by an Egyptian Air Force pilot, then again over Lisbon, Portugal by the pilot, crew, and passengers of a KLM Airlines flight, reporting that it was speeding westward over the Atlantic Ocean.
