- Julius Dreschfeld
Julius Dreschfeld (1846-1907) was a leading British physician and pathologist.
Born in
Bavaria of Jewish parents, he was educated atOwens College ,Manchester , andManchester Royal School of Medicine .After being awarded an MD in
Würzburg in 1864, he became a surgeon in the Bavarian Army. He settled in Manchester in 1869 and was on the staff ofManchester Royal Infirmary , 1873-1907; he was elected FRCP, 1883. He was professor of pathology (1881-91) and of medicine (1891-1907) at theVictoria University of Manchester . He almost forestalledLouis Pasteur in his researches on hydrophobia, 1882-3. He was also an expert neurologist. He published numerous scientific papers in English and German journals.References
