Wildside Gaming System is a generic role-playing game system, created by Leigh Ronald Grossman, president of Swordsmith Productions, and published by Wildside Press. The rules are primarily written for a medieval fantasy setting but the game system can be used for any era and genre. The game only provides rules for playing the game, no setting is provided. The author claims the rules are very realistic, designed for experienced and adult players. The game mechanic revolves around four six-sided dice (commonly referred to as "4d6"). The characters' attributes are determined by 4d6 and action resolution, including combat are resolved by rolling 4d6.

Combat is resolved by comparing the attacker's and defender's combat rolls of 4d6 on a special combat chart. Combat damage is determined on several charts cross-referencing a roll of two 10-sided dice (read as a percentage, i.e. giving a value between 1 to 100) and the body part hit.
