Pickering High School is a secondary school in Hull, England. The headteacher is Mrs Elaine Wadsworth.The school's GCSE results are improving every year and the school hopes to improve this year with the current year 11's. The school's canteen has taken on a new healthy eating campaign and there are numerous sport activities to do in and out of school.
The school has had a revamp over the last few years introducing a new building to replace the older dilapidated building and bring the school on to one site. A sports hall was built to back up the sports college status.
There are proposals to make the school a privately funded school in the near future as part of the government's Building Schools for the Future plans.
Latest Ofsted report
The last Ofsted inspection the school received was in 2003. It rated the school as "good" in its ranking system, the 3rd highest available.
The report outlined both strengths the schooland improvements the school should make to progress up the ranking system.
Strengths:
* Very good leadership and management by the headteacher and managerial teaching staff
* Good teaching in lessons resulting in good learning and positive relationships
* Provisions made for Special education needs (SEN) pupils
* Systems for monitoring pupil progression
Improvements suggested:
* Improvement of some teaching staff, in particular in mathematics
* Greater use of ICT to assist learning in lessons
* Attendance needs a significant improvement, as does punctuality to continue schools progression
* Improve and modernise teaching and recreational areas to improve learning and safety
Mentors
The school introduced mentors many years ago.The purpose of the mentor is to help children by interacting with them and giving them one-on-one treatment.
Reward scheme
A reward scheme has been set up by the school to encourage students to behave. It has used a points system and has been set up by the school's librarian Nicola Witherwick.
