Morin Heights is a town in the
Laurentian Mountains region ofQuebec ,Canada . It is west of Saint-Sauveur and north of Lachute; municipally, it is within the Regional County Municipality of Les Pays-d'en-Haut. It is named for its founder, 19th-century politicianAugustin-Norbert Morin .It is primarily a tourist town, having a large
ski hill that is popular during the winter months and being on a recreationaltrail way (theAerobic Corridor ), which is used year-round.Just south of the town is a
recording studio , simply calledLe Studio (now closed) that has been used by numerous Canadian and international artists, includingThe Tragically Hip , Rush,The Rolling Stones ,David Bowie ,The Bee Gees ,Cat Stevens , Pilot,The Police ,April Wine , Rainbow,Barenaked Ladies , andLawrence Gowan .The town gained notoriety in 1994 when members of the
Order of the Solar Temple took part in a mass suicide, after setting fire to their compound.A tragic roof collapse of a bakery warehouse called Gourmet du Village on
March 12 ,2008 killed 3 women. There were 40 people inside the building at the time of the incident. An excessive accumulation of snow was suspected to be the cause of the accident. The victims are Barbara Elliott, 54; Sharon Kirkpatrick, 62; and Marilyn Osiaza, 46. [cite news
