Lawyers Alliance for New York

Lawyers Alliance for New York (Lawyers Alliance) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides business and legal transactional services to nonprofit and community development organizations in the U.S. state of New York. Lawyers Alliance was founded in 1969 as the Council of New York Law Associates.

"Lawyers Alliance for New York is the leading provider of business and transactional legal services for nonprofit organizations that are improving the quality of life in New York City neighborhoods. Our network of pro bono lawyers from law firms and corporations and staff of experienced attorneys work together, delivering expert corporate, tax, real estate, employment, and other legal services to community organizations. By connecting lawyers, nonprofits, and communities, we help nonprofits to develop affordable housing, stimulate economic development, and operate vital programs for children and young people, the elderly, recent immigrants, and other low-income New Yorkers." Throughout the 1980s, the Council developed and began to advise nonprofit organizations in corporate, real estate, and tax law. In 1991, the Council changed its name to Lawyers Alliance for New York. Since then, Lawyers Alliance has continued to aid New York nonprofits with their varied legal and programmatic needs. Current program priorities are: affordable housing and homeless services, economic development, children and youth services, immigrant communities, and elder services.

Lawyers Alliance functions by utilizing the skills of a network of over 700 "pro bono" lawyers from corporations and law firms, as well as a staff of attorneys and other employees and on-site volunteers.

Lawyers Alliance represents 500 nonprofit organizations on over 800 different legal matters yearly.
