Depictions
Human trafficking is the commercial trade ("smuggling") of human beings, who are subjected to involuntary acts such as begging, sexual exploitation (eg. prostitution and forced marriage), or unfree labour (eg. involuntary servitude or working in sweatshops).
It has been an increasingly popular subject for filmmakers in recent years, as demonstrated by films such as "Amistad" and "Ride with the Devil". As well, popular crime series such as "" have had shows which revolve around the human trafficking of young women, who are forced to work as prostitutes. Filmmakers and television shows use these trafficking-themed movies to educate the public about the injustices of slavery.
