- Sorne Hill wind farm
The Sorne Hill Wind Farm is a wind farm located in
Buncrana , InishowenDonegal Ireland and erected in2006 . The farm is run by Tapbury Management Limited.Turbines
Phase 1 of the farm has 16 gearless wind turbines, type
Enercon E-70 2 [MW] with a 64 metre hub height and 71 metre rotor diameter giving a total capacity of 32 megawatts.Phase 2 of the farm which is an additional 6.9 MW from threeEnercon E-70 2.3 MW turbines were installed in the autumn of2007 . This makes Sorne Hill Wind Farm, at 38 MW the third largest wind farms in Ireland as of August 2008.Flow battery storage
In one of the largest contracts for an energy storage system in the wind power industry, VRB Power Systems Inc. has contracted to supply a 1.5 MW x 8 hour
Vanadium redox battery system. This will be driven from phase 2 of the wind farm and will enable surplus electricity to be generated when demand is low, and will improve consistency or supply to the electricity network [http://www.windenergyinvesting.com/2006/08/30/ireland-windfarm-inks-vrb-energy-storage-system-purchase-agreement/] [http://www.leonardo-energy.org/drupal/node/959] .ee also
