Logitech have used a holographic image on the mouse, making it appear dented, orshot with bullets; this would have an obvious appeal to people who play games, and is considered a selling point.There are two versions of the mouse; the more recent release with 1800 DPI and the otherwise nearly identical, 1600 DPI model. It is difficult to separate the two, as they appear the exactly same.
Faulty Mice
There have been a number of reports where several gamers' MX-518 mice stopped functioning after a few months of use.Fact|date=August 2007 Common symptoms were the mice constantly froze, and the mouse's USB device appeared to unplug itself from the PC according to the device manager. Logitech responded to these complaints by releasing an updated version of the mouse, with an entirely new sensor engine.
