castle built in about1837 byGeorge Montagu, 6th Duke of Manchester . It has been described as a "Gothic Extravaganza". Prior to theIrish Rebellion of 1641 ,Tandragee Castle was the ancestral seat of the O'Hanlon Sept, Princes of Oirthirr and Ui Naillan. The castle today houses the offices of the potato crisp company Tayto.Much of the town's

Thomas Sinton opened a mill in town in the 1880s, an expansion of his firm from its original premises at nearbyLaurelvale - amodel village he built.
