Rancho Buena Vista High School or "RBV" is a California Distinguished School and International Baccalaureate Organization World School, located in Vista, California. [http://rbvhs.vusd.k12.ca.us/]

History

Opened in 1988, Rancho Buena Vista High School, often shortened locally to "RBV", "Rancho" or "The Ranch", is a comprehensive, public, secondary school in the Vista Unified School District. The school's mascot is the Longhorn (Texas longhorn). Among the largest schools in San Diego County, with over 3,300 enrolled students, with a diverse student population in grades 9-12, Rancho Buena Vista High is one of the 572 World Schools in the United States (as of January 2008) offering the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. Varda Levy is the school principal. Mari Contraras, JoAnn Jones, Eileen Hermansen, Steve Hargrave are the school assistant principals.

Many students participate in a large internship programme, AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination), the Regional Occupational Program (ROP), and IB Certificate and Advanced Placement (AP) classes. "RBV" is featured in the video game Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 (2000), created by San Diego County native Tony Hawk. The school's Longhorn emblem is displayed on the wall of one of the buildings in the school level. Dave Roberts, a major league baseball player, is Rancho Buena Vista's most notable graduate.
